Basilique-Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Québec
The Notre Dame parish is the oldest in North America. Built on the same site since 1647, the Cathedral was destroyed twice by fire.
This treasure of our religious heritage contains countless priceless works of art, including the episcopal canopy, the stained glass windows, the various paintings as well as the sanctuary lamp -donated by King Louis 14th.
Located below the Cathedral, the crypt is where four New France governors as well as all of the city's bishops have been laid to rest. The remains of François de Laval, the first bishop in Québec's history, are in a small chapel found a few feet away from the alter.
Guided tours are offered from May until late October and upon request during the rest of the year.
