Attractions in the winter wonderland

Come along as we uncover some invigorating outdoor winter activities. Snow may not last forever, so you might as well enjoy it in good company and here are a few suggestions.

Whether you’re on your own, with your family or a group, Les Secrets Nordiques will acquaint you with dogsledding, snowshoeing, ski joring (a sport in which a cross country skier is pulled by one or several dogs), Norwegian scooter or « Snow Scouting ». This Beaupré Coast-based company offers a wide range of winter activities for all ages and the chance for an unforgettable day.

The Massif de Charlevoix always offers unparalleled ski conditions!   Following some major investments from Groupe Le Massif, including three new lifts, 85 acres for off-trail skiing as well as a new learning center for the new generation of ski addicts, now more than ever Le Massif is the place to go!

In the heart of Québec, La patinoire de la Place d’Youville is the perfect place to stretch your legs. Let the brisk music guide your blades on this charming family rink. A skate rental and sharpening service is available during the hours of operation. The more daring won’t want to miss the Glissades de la Terrasse, located by the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac. These slides have been a part of the city’s landscape since 1884 and constitute a most unique attraction. Climb up the slides’ 83 meters (270 feet) and go down to speeds that can reach up to 90 km/h (60 miles per hour).  Also in the general area, lovers of the great outdoors can enjoy snowshoeing, cross country skiing, a snow scooter ride or just a stroll on the Plains of Abraham.

Enjoy some of the most beautiful winter landscapes along marked out paths as you go out for an ATV ride along 120 kilometres of trails. Aventure Quad is the only company that offers winter trails in the heart of the city. If a snowmobile journey towards the Charlevoix, Beaupré Coast or Québec regions are more your cup of tea, the La Fédération des clubs de motoneigistes du Québec (FCMQ) has the perfect adventure for you. Drive along the paths on the Island of Orleans and l’Île aux Coudres, in the middle of or along the majestic Saint Lawrence River, or discover the Laurentian Mountains.

And for something completely different, head out to La Pourvoirie du Lac Beauport, as they offer a dream adventure in association with Aventure Québec Nord: one night in the woods in the middle of winter! Test your fortitude as you spend the night in a prospector’s tent or a real igloo.
